I ordered the 4.4 pound bag the first time and it goes a very long way. Added some to my fish aquarium and also had plenty to propagate 37 Alocasia corms/babies. Makes roots so much stronger. Definitely will order this again and again and again. Currently waiting on my next order of the 8.8 pound bag to arrive. Great price for how far this goes. I have so many of my house plants growing in this stuff and probably won’t ever go back to traditional soil ever again. Planning on transferring all my houseplants to this product. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF YOURE PLANNING ON USING IT FOR HOUSEPLANTS. So glad I decided to give it a try, there no turning back now.

I love the color and shape of this substrate, and I’m very happy that it seems like it won’t break down like other aquasoils. It seems like it holds a lot of beneficial bacteria and plant nutrients. I put some root tabs in because I heard that unlike other aquasoils this is inert. The one problem I had though is that my plants float up aggressively, turn the light on in the morning and their oxygen release makes them all float to the top of the bowl, because this substrate is really really light, doesn’t hold them down at all. I placed rocks (aventurine and agate) to weigh them down while they develop some strong roots. Though the floating has been a pain I really like the product and I’ll be buying 2 more bags

I thought because this contains buffers that it would help me maintain a 7.0 or thereabouts.

I failed to read the small print. It buffers to acidic conditions. Having older/established tanks, this is not an issue. Now I’m juggling chemicals trying to compensate.

That said, i got it to plant a 30 gallon, and my plants have never looked better. It’s just a bit hostile for the cleanup crew. PLANTED TANKS NEED SNAILS, SHRIMP, AND OTHER INVERTEBRATES. They can’t tolerate seriously acidic conditions.

Also, i can’t just add crushed coral or lye to balance the acid if i want fish that like soft water and low salinity such as angels and neons.

Love this substrate. Has a very nice look to it when in the tank. I didn’t wash mine and had no problem with cloudy water. It’s in my pea puffer tank and it allows me to vacuum with ease. Only issue I have is getting the substrate to hold down plants

It was a little funny for my dry start, but honestly it is a great substrate, my aquarium plants are THRIVING
